 Born Learning Trail
Open to Community!!

"Look, Play, Laugh, Learn."  This sign on the grounds of the Titusville YWCA may sum up the concept of a new program spearheaded by the Titusville Area United Way i conjunction with Titusville YWCA.
Called the "Born Learning Trail", the program includes activities for both children and adults in the community.  The program is unique i that participants follow an actual trail that leads them to educaional activities.
Born Learning is a public engagement campaign, focused on creating early learning opportunities for young children.  Through the campaign, public services advertising, a website and educational material give parents, grandparents and other caregivers steps to help young children learn.
The trail contains a series of learning activities that any adult can play with young children.  The trail is located on the grounds of the YWCA and is sponsored by PNC Bank.  The installation of the trail was made possible through grant money.  Although the project was initially earmarked for last fall, it came to fruition this spring.  There are 10 signs on the trail, each including a different activity.
Cutting the ribbon for the Born Learning Trail are: (left to right) Titusville Area United Way Chief Professional Officer Terri Ann Wig; county Commissioner Francis Weiderspahn; PNC Branch Manager Sandy Hepler; United Way Board President Melinda Hart; Titusville Area Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Christa Battin; and YWCA Executive Director Ashleigh English.   Also helping with the event are FunFactory preschoolers: Kady, Ashley, Ryan and Tyler.

Titusville Area United Way receives National Certification

Terri Ann Wig, Chief Professional Officer, announced that the Titusville Area United Way has successfully completed all of the United Way of America membership requirements satisfactorily and on time. The requirements include: MEMBERSHIP REQUIREMENTS CERTIFICATION, MEMBERSHIP INVESTMENT, and the DATABASE 2 SURVEY OF TOTAL RESOURCES GENERATED (a survey that captures the full extent of a community’s resource development efforts during the year). “It is important for us to maintain a high standard of accountability and this is part of the process to document that our operations are transparent and meet or exceed United Way membership criteria requirements,” stated Wig. “The membership standards must be certified annually in order for us to remain a member of the United Way system.”

The board of Titusville Area United Way Board of Directors reviewed and approved the Membership Requirements Certification earlier this year. The certification mandates completion of 13 requirements for United Way of America membership along with verification of the status of 44 indicators that demonstrate a United Way embodies the intent of the membership requirements.  “It is critically important that all United Ways meet the highest standards and verify on paper that they have conformed to the stringent requirements of membership in the United Way system,” stated Brian Gallagher, President and CEO, United Way of America.  “We applaud and congratulate Titusville Area United Way for demonstrating their commitment to the mission and ideals of United Way by completing the recertification process.”

what matters.

The Titusville Area United Way is part of a system of over 1,300 United Ways. Each local United Way must complete United Way of America’s requirements annually in order to retain its United Way of America membership.  The Titusville Area United Way has set its annual campaign goal at $161,000 for the "Uniquely United" Campaign to fund the communities most needed human service programs. Back to Football
is Back in Titusville!

Over the past several years the Titusville Area United Way has sponsored Back to Football Friday in support of the NFL Play 60 Movement and its partnership with United Way Worldwide.  The partnership focuses on the reduction of childhood obesity throughout the country.  The Titusville Area United Way has focused on the issue for several years with the SMART Start Family and Youth Wellness.

Well, this year it's back with a new and exciting twist.  During the last few weeks students in the district have been participating in a variety of activities focusing on the NFL, football, and Youth Wellness.  As our celebrations come to a close, the Titusville Area United Way will host the first ever
"Rocket Run".

On Friday September 21st students and their families are asked to report to the THS back parking lot on Spruce Street at 5:30 pm, donning their best NFL or Titusville Rocket apparel to celebrate the return of football and the fight against childhood obesity.  Students must register and have a signed permission slip with them to participate.  At 5:45 the students and parents will line-up behind a police escort and the Rocket Marching Band.  The group will run/walk east on Spruce Street and south on Brown Street.  The group will stop several times during the event to participate in fun fitness activities which will be led by members of the THS Student United Way and volunteers from UNIV PITT.

The THS Cheerleaders will lead the group in cheers as they parade down to Carter Field and the Titusville Middle School Football Team members will help to escort the group.  Once at Carter Field, participants will form a human tunnel at the bottom of the stairs and await the entrance of the Titusville Rockets.

Kick-off for the game is 7:00 pm.  Contact Titusville United Way @ 827-1322 w/questions.
